Hi, I’m Chris,

For most of my teenage years and early adult life, I struggled with my weight. I was never really heavy but I always carried an extra 10-15

pounds...even up to 30 pounds in college! That may not sound like
much to some people but when you're only 5'2" tall, it's plenty!


I would constantly berate myself because I wasn’t happy with how
I looked and how I felt. I just wanted to feel confident and comfortable in my body.

 

As a gymnast in high school and coxswain in college, I was expected to be as thin and light as possible. So I tried diet after diet - on the search for the magic bullet that would finally work!

 

I tried eating less, counting calories, exercising more and harder and I was always hungry!

 

Each time I went on a new diet, I got excited because I thought “this time will be different.” And things would start off positive in that I lost a little weight. And I had that amazing feeling of having my clothes get a bit looser and feeling lighter. But all the while I was suffering on these diets. I was hungry and deprived. I was super cranky and grumpy!!

But that’s not the worst part.

 

The worst part is that when I went off each diet, I’d continue to eat what I thought was a

"healthy" diet, occasionally skipping meals to "save" calories, and focused on eating more

"diet", "low-fat" or "fat-free" food. Ironically, that’s when the weight came back on…

every. single. time! Maybe you can relate and know how defeating this is. 


My turning point was when I spent a summer semester in Florence, Italy.

 

Our "dorm" was a beautiful villa just outside of the city and all our meals were included.

We indulged in decadent Capuccino and fresh-baked rolls with butter and jam for
breakfast, pasta at lunch, delicious dinners, and incredible desserts. (tiramisu anyone?)

Snacks were usually a choice of amazingly sweet, seasonal fruit
like grapes or figs or fresh berries.

 

The crazy thing was...despite all those pasta lunches, I lost 10 pounds that summer!
 

That’s when I realized that there was a better way. 

By eating delicious whole, seasonal food in smaller - but completely satisfying - portions
(and walking a lot) my extra weight melted off.

 

I ended up staying in Italy another two years after my summer program ended.

By following this Mediterranean way of eating, the weight stayed off and

my metabolism completely changed. 

 

When I returned to the states, I began to study food and nutrition informally to try and
understand why I had struggled for so many years - and to figure out how I had changed my metabolism so I could not only lose the weight but keep it off for good.

 

I finally felt freedom with food and my body, because I had learned how to eat and take
care of myself that felt nurturing, rather than punishment.

It's been nearly 30 years since that sweet summer semester in Italy but I've

managed to stay thin all this time, even through menopause!

During the COVID lockdown, I decided to get serious about my studies and began an intensive
6-month program to become a certified health coach so I could help others transform their health. I've since added Neuro Coaching to bring brain science into the equation to help clients work with their brain chemistry (all those feel-good neurochemicals!) for lasting results.
